MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a dietary supplement which is supposed to treat hair loss, and other conditions such as arthritis, snoring and allergies. MSM is a sulfur-compound, and it can help in faster hair growth and improve hair brilliance. It is supposed to help in the production of keratin and collagen which are important for hair growth. Moreover, it is also contains antioxidants which can prevent hair loss.

MSM and Hair Growth:
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a sulfur compound which is important for the structural development of hair. It is well-absorbed by the body and it can help in faster hair growth. There are many supplements of MSM which are available in the market. About 700 mg of MSM is recommended daily for healthy hair.

Studies showed that MSM can promote hair growth along with nail growth. This might be due to the fact that MSM helps in production of collagen and keratin which are important for the hair growth. However, contrasting studies claim that MSM is just a supplementation of sulfur and it may not live up to its promise.

MSM and Hair transplant Growth:
It was also found that MSM speeds up hair transplant growth. Hence, those who have undertaken hair transplantation are recommended MSM for 6 months after the treatment. About 1500 mg to 3000 mg of MSM is taken during this period.

MSM can cause side-effects such as nausea, headache, and diarrhea. Also, this supplement should not be taken during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Though MSM for hair growth is popular, but it is not fully proven scientifically. Do consult your doctor before taking this supplement.
