Your pug or lab can bring you the greatest moments of joy. On the other hand, canine hair loss can give you many a sleepless nights. Relax! Canine hair loss is a common problem and can be rectified by a veterinary.
Your dog might lose hair from the body, corners of the mouth, eyes, paws etc. Some of the causes can be simple. However, in some cases it might be because of an underlying illness.
Some Causes Of Canine Hair Loss- Loss Of Hair Around Eyes, Mouth, Paws, Belly Etc.
- Allergies: Your dog might be allergic to rubber, certain foods, wool, plastic etc. The chemicals used in the dyes or deodorizer can also cause allergies in the dogs.
- Parasites: Certain parasites like fleas, mites, lice or ringworms can also cause canine hair loss.
- Behavioral Problems: Problems like anxiety and boredom might lead to hair loss in your pet.
- Cushing’s disease: Cushing’s disease is caused by tumor or a long-term use of steroids. This may lead to canine hair loss.
- Thyroid disease: Under active thyroid gland or hypothyroid gland can lead to hair loss in dogs.
- Diabetes: Another culprit for canine hair loss is diabetes.
- Cancer: Skin cancer causes loss of hair around the eyes, nose and belly.
- Autoimmune Diseases: Pemphigus, an autoimmune disease leads to patchy hair loss as the immune system starts attacking it’s own body cells.
- Sebaceous gland inflammation: In such a condition, the sebaceous glands are destroyed leading to hair loss.
- Hormones: Any kind of disturbance in the sex hormones or growth hormones also causes canine hair loss.
There’s nothing to be alarmed about the canine hair loss. Your vet would be able to identify the cause of the hair loss and provide suitable assistance.
