Corticosteroids for Hair Loss

Corticosteroids are usually used for treating hair loss caused due to alopecia areata. It is an auto-immune disease in which the hair growth gets rejected after being considered as foreign objects. This diseases occurs due to the attack of white blood cells (WBCs). The WBCs attack the hair follicles which results in hair loss. The loss can be on the head and the other body parts as well. This condition is not a threat to life and is usually temporary.
The treatment of alopecia areata is different from the usual hair loss.
Using Corticosteroids for Hair Loss:

Step # 1: The first and the main thing is to learn that whether the hair loss is by alopecia areata. You can get reports on this on the Internet. One can also get the report in the book “Alopecia Areata: Understanding and Coping with Hair Loss”.
Step # 2: See a doctor and inform your findings to him/her. Tell the doctor about the symptoms and the history. The doctor would then find out whether you have Alopecia Areata or not.
Step # 3: Then ask the doctor if you can use corticosteroids. He would probably prescribe injections or pills.
Step # 4: Get injections of corticosteroids from the doctor. The injections are injected on their bald portion of the scalp.
Step # 5: Take the dosages only according to the doctor’s prescription.
Step # 6: Use any other prescribed treatments like corticosteroid or antral creams according to doctor’s direction
