In the last fifteen to twenty years, research has shown that there is an increase in hair loss in both men and women. It is important to understand the causes of hair thinning to stop it. There are many factors responsible for thinning which leads to hair loss. These are genetic disorders, thyroid, age, diet, etc. Out of these, a few cause temporary hair loss while others cause permanent hair loss.
Ways in which Hair Thinning can be Stopped:
- Minoxidil is a FDA-approved product for hair loss. It shows best results for treating hair loss in initial stages. It promotes growth.
- Use hair growth shampoos. Biotin is useful in hair growth. So biotin shampoos can be useful in reducing thinning of hair.
- Diet plays an important role in hair growth. Vitamins, minerals and proteins required for hair growth are gained from the food we consume. For better absorption of these vitamins and minerals, you can go for external supplements containing these vitamins and minerals.
- Consult a doctor as he/she can advise about the exact cause and treatment for hair thinning.
Hair Thinning in Men:
Hair thinning is observed in 40% of men who are below the age of 35. The major cause of hair loss in men is androgenic alopecia. Hair loss first starts with receding hair line later thinning at the crown is seen which further leads to a bald spot. Bald spot is a severe case which needs to be treated. If this is not treated it can lead to complete baldness. The main cause of hair loss in men is DHT-dihydrotestosterone with is derived from the testosterone hormone.
Thinning Hair in Women:
Hair loss in women is very different when compared to men. The pattern and the reasons for hair loss in women varies drastically. Hair loss in women is generally seen after the age of 40. The hair loss pattern in women is overall thinning. It is not seen in patches. The causes for hair thinning in women are thyroid, menopause, pregnancy, diet and hormonal imbalance. Women observe hair loss after the age of 40. This is because after 40, women start the phase of menopause. Due to this, hormonal imbalance starts in the body which causes hair loss. Another reason is the low secretion of the estrogen hormone in the body. Estrogen is responsible for hair growth in women.
